As you enter into your day today, I want to draw your attention to this powerful verse found in the introduction of Paul’s letter to the church in Ephesus. It contains some wonderful promises that should fuel your spirit as you encounter your day.
First of all, notice the tense of the verb within the verse. Paul writes that the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has blessed us. Paul is not describing something that will happen in the future, but something that has already occurred. God has already bestowed amazing blessings upon us!
Second, God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing. God didn’t give us a portion of blessings that will be later filled in. He gave us every spiritual blessing that He could possibly give.
Third, God blessed us in the heavenly realms. Most commentators agree that the heavenly realms includes where we are now. These are not blessings that we are unable to take advantage of until we get to heaven. These are blessings that belong to us in this life and will carry over with us when we get to heaven.
Fourth, we have received these blessings in Christ. It is our Lord Jesus Christ that has allowed us to receive these blessings, and only those who belong to Jesus are able to receive them. As Paul will explain later in Ephesians, these blessings are a gift from God given to us because of God’s grace.
Fifth, these blessings are spiritual blessings. The indwelling Holy Spirit bestows them upon us. As we maintain fellowship with the Holy Spirit, we are able to draw upon these blessings throughout the day.
As you go through your day today taking care of patients and encountering pain and illness, remember that God has already blessed you with every blessing possible through the Holy Spirit. He has also blessed those you encounter who are fellow believers in Christ, and is ready to bless those who have not yet taken that step.
Encourage and share the good news as you are able…
Prayer: Lord as I encounter opposition or difficulties today, remind me of the amazing truth that you have already blessed me with every possible blessing in Christ.
