Citizens of Heaven

Sunset-2“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ…” Phil. 3:20 (NIV)

Chapter         (NIV)

Audio              (3:21)

We each have a hunger within our souls.

We can try to satisfy that hunger with things in this world. When we do, we become focused on earthly things and Paul tells us that our stomach becomes our god.

But there is a much better alternative.

Paul tells us the truth…we are citizens of heaven.

C.S. Lewis once famously wrote… “If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.”

There it is…we are made for another world.

We are aliens in this world…immigrants just passing through. We are headed for the country of our true citizenship…heaven.

No wonder our soul hunger is never fully satisfied. It was meant to be satisfied completely by Him…when we see Him face to face.

This realization is critical.

The deep ongoing gnaw of soul hunger is normal. There’s nothing wrong with me. It’s there and remains because it can’t be appeased in this world.

It will be satisfied…eventually.

It will be fully satisfied by Him in heaven.

And guess what? We don’t have to wait until we reach heaven to begin appeasing that soul hunger.

We can begin today…right now… to satisfy that soul hunger by drawing near to the Lord.

But first, we must cast off those things we’ve been using to satisfy our hunger.

If we have been using our medical practice to satisfy that soul hunger…we should turn our professional life over to Him…daily. We do that by seeking His guidance in creating boundaries within our professional life. These boundaries help us do only what He wants us to do.

We can seek to serve others rather than gain prestige.

We can seek to be a good steward rather than satisfying our hunger through consumption.

We can seek to do His will rather than our own.

Savor the ache of soul hunger and use it to drive you to Him.

Don’t waste it with lesser “things”.

Prayer: Lord help me to identify when my motivations arise out of my longing for You and use that longing to pursue You.

  1. I am really loving the theme/design of your site. Do you ever run into any browser
compatibility issues? A handful of my blog audience have complained about my website not working correctly in Explorer but
looks great in Opera. Do you have any solutions to help fix this problem?

    • Jeff says:

If anyone has had browser issues, I’ve not heard about it. It’s certainly possible that they have and not made any comment about it. Even if they did, I’m not sure what my next step would be other than to contact WordPress.

      Thanks for your kind words…
