God’s Perfect Will

bridge“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Rom. 12:2 (NIV)

This week I’ve been writing about being a living sacrifice. It begins with developing the attitude of a servant that over time leads us to acting like a servant.

Sacrificial living is necessary to achieve the integrated life, because the integrated life is a life with Jesus Christ in the center. As the center of our life, we entrust Him with complete control of our entire life.

Entrusting Christ with control of our lives goes against the pattern of this world and requires that we be transformed in how we think about our world, our God, and ourselves.

The last section of today’s verse teaches us about the results of sacrificial living.

We find His good, pleasing and perfect will for our lives.

As we submit control of our lives to Jesus, we begin to experience a life that He is leading. It is no longer a life that we are leading. It is a life being lived according to His will…not our own.

When we let go of control…it is like falling backwards into His arms. We fully trust that he will be there to catch us.

As He controls our lives, we are by definition living in His will.

Paul tells us that as we experience the Christ-centered life, we will find that it is a perfect fit for us. We will live as God created us to live.

Paul reminds us in Ephesians 2:10 that God has a specific plan for us. We enter into that plan, not by our own scheming, but by surrendering to His will.

And as we undertake the good works that God has specifically designed for us…we will find them pleasing. They will fit our gifting well and we will be able to accomplish them as needed.

This pleasure and obvious fitting of His will to our lives proves that His will is perfect. This is how we achieve shalom and abundant living…living the sacrificial life by surrendering our will to Him.

It’s the life we were created to live.

Prayer: Lord, help me to fully surrender and entrust my life to You!
