“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.” Eph. 1:13,14 (NIV)
In today’s verses, Paul gives us yet another role of the Holy Spirit. He tells us that we have been “sealed” by the Spirit.
The original word refers to the process of securing an official parchment roll with wax that was melted and stamped with the signet ring of the official writing the document.
The seal provided the necessary security for the document.
When we came to true faith in Jesus Christ, we received the indwelling Holy Spirit who Himself is our “seal”.
The Holy Spirit provides the security that we are destined for heaven…and His seal cannot be broken.
The destiny for all who are indwelled by the Holy Spirit is clearly established…that destiny is heaven.
Those indwelled by the Holy Spirit have nothing to prove…nothing to earn.
They don’t have to battle to get into heaven…their place is already secure.
In our practice of medicine, it is easy for us to forget two things. First we can forget that our ultimate destiny is another world. Second, we can forget that our place in heaven is already secured.
We get “caught up” into this world and transfer all our priorities onto this world.
We need to remind ourselves that we are sealed for another inheritance.
All heavenly beings…angelic beings and demonic beings…look upon us and see the indwelling Holy Spirit. They know we are destined for heaven.
But we often forget this…
Do we live our lives in a manner that shows we are destined for heaven?
God’s desire for us is to recognize the presence of the indwelling Holy Spirit and enter our day with confidence that our eternal fate is already settled.
God desires that we live in the confidence of His inward presence.
There is no need for anxiety.
There is no need for worry.
There is no need for striving.
We only need to trust and obey.
Prayer: Lord, remind me of the wonderful truth that I am sealed with the Holy Spirit and destined for heaven.
