The helmet of salvation

helmet-of-salvationTake the helmet of salvation…”

Eph. 6:17a (NIV)

Chapter         (NIV)

Audio              (3:17)

Nothing is more deadly than a blow to the head.

That’s why in battle…our head must be protected. In the midst of our spiritual battle, our head is protected by the helmet of salvation.

We need the helmet of salvation for two reasons.

First, no person who has not experienced salvation in Jesus Christ should engage in spiritual warfare. Acts 19 tells the story of the seven sons of Sceva who decided to fight an evil spirit without the protection of salvation in Jesus Christ. They were beaten so badly that Scripture tells us they ran from the house naked and bleeding.

Second, even those who are saved by the sacrificial death of Jesus should be clearly convinced of their salvation.

That’s because the enemy loves to accuse.

One of his favorite accusations is that we really aren’t a true follower of Jesus.

He will use our failings in righteousness…

He will use arrows of doubt…

He will use lies…

Being assured of our salvation is an important piece of armor in spiritual warfare.

God gives us several ways that we can be assured of our salvation. First, Scripture tells us in John 1:12 that “…to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” We not only believe that Jesus died for our sins, we also place our trust in Him and receive Him into our lives.

Second, Acts 10:47 and 1 Cor. 6:19 tell us that when we place our faith in Jesus Christ, we receive the Holy Spirit within us. Finally Paul tells us in Romans 8:16 that the indwelling Holy Spirit testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

There is no reason why any true child of God should doubt their salvation.

God Himself testifies that we belong to Him.

If you are struggling that you are a child of God…I encourage you to talk with a mature believer who can help your work through that doubt.

As that doubt is dispelled…take up the helmet of salvation…and you will be able to confidently battle the enemy knowing your eternal destiny regardless of the accusations he throws at you.

Prayer: Lord, keep me aware and confident of Your wonderful salvation in Christ!
