As we move from a temporal to an eternal perspective, we increasingly realize that the infinite God who created us is aware of how we are living our lives. Not only that…we have the amazing capacity to please Him. We can actually bring pleasure to the Creator of the universe through the way we live our lives.
However, if we want to live a life that is pleasing to God, it must be a priority in our lives.
Pleasing God doesn’t happen simply by avoiding sin.
A life that is pleasing to God is a life that is lived with God, walking in the path that He has laid out for us.
It will be a life that takes on the spiritual forces of evil.
It will be a life that involves some degree of struggle.
The life of Paul is an example of a life that was pleasing to God.
Walking in a manner worthy of the Lord is our responsibility.
Put simply…living a life that is pleasing to God requires that we actively put certain practices into place.
A few weeks ago, I spent some time writing about the spiritual disciplines. The spiritual disciplines are the framework for our spiritual growth.
It is essential that we not only practice the disciplines, but that we learn to practice them correctly. For example, one habit I’ve struggled with my entire Christian life is the habit of taking on new opportunities without adequately praying about the decision. This has caused me to become involved in activities that while good were not what God intended at that time.
I was praying daily…and yet I had failed to engage the discipline of prayer effectively in my life.
Learning to use the spiritual disciplines effectively takes time and practice. It requires being open to the leading of God’s Spirit.
That’s a choice we make daily…
So, how are you going to choose to walk today?
Prayer: Lord show me how to effectively live my life in order to please You.
