God and stewardship

soul_cries_out“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”                            1 Cor. 6:19,20 (NIV)

Chapter         (NIV)

Audio              (3:03)

Stewardship is usually discussed in the context of money, but as today’s verse alludes, stewardship involves other things besides our financial resources. We are stewards because everything we have…we have received from God. Therefore, we are to use what He has given us in ways that are pleasing and honoring to Him.

This includes our financial resources, our time, the talents He has bestowed upon us, and yes…even our own bodies. Specifically, it includes the education and intellect that enables us to practice medicine.

We are in medicine because God has allowed us to be in medicine…not because we somehow earned it ourselves.

It was God who opened the opportunity for us to get our education.

It was God who gave us the gifts to be able to practice medicine.

Thus, we are healthcare professionals because of God’s enabling.

The more we recognize that…the more we will see ourselves as stewards. Rather than feeling entitled to what we have received, we should feel thankful to have received this wonderful gift of a medical education. And out of that thankfulness, we should naturally look for ways to share what God has given us.

Prayer: Lord, remind me daily that all I have…I have received from You!
